GRANT COUNTY (WKOW) -- A high speed chase ends in a crash.
According to the Grant County Sheriff's Office, around 1:00 a.m. on Sunday police attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle heading north bound on STH 80. A car passed a police officer at 87 miles per hour.
When the deputy tried to pull over the car, it sped up and turned east bound on STH 11, heading to Benton. Speeds increased to 100 miles per hour.
The car was traveling too fast to make a turn and entered the right shoulder of the road. The car drove up an embankment and flipped over several times. Police say the driver was not wearing a seat belt and was intoxicated.
EMS arrived on scene to take the driver to the hospital.
Thirty-seven year old John Scanlan from Benton was charged with his 1st OWI offense, felony eluding, speeding and a seat belt violation.
Lafayette County Sheriff's Department will handle the accident.
