APPLETON (WKOW) -- The former treasurer of a youth ports league pleads not guilty to allegations he embezzled nearly $20,000 from the organization.
The Post-Crescent of Appleton reports Rodney K. Schreiber Jr. is accused of taking the money to support a gambling addition. Prosecutors claims he withdrew nearly $14,000 from a Fox Valley youth sports league account using mostly casino ATMs and used some of the league money to buy a computer without permission.
If he's found guilty, Schreiber faces a maximum prison sentence of five years.
Schreiber had been the only person authorized to withdraw money from the account. League officials say they now have several people overseeing the financial accounts.
Defense attorney David Templeton says he thinks a plea agreement will be reached, avoiding the need for a trial.
