MADISON (WKOW) -- Around 15,000 people in Wisconsin have signed a petition to save same-day voter registration.
The liberal groups We are Wisconsin, One Wisconsin Now, and United Wisconsin delivered the petition to Governor Scott Walker's office on Thursday. The governor recently said he wants to end same-day voter registration in Wisconsin.
"Politicians like Governor Walker have said that we need to do this because they're some type of rampant voter fraud," Scot Ross, with One Wisconsin Now, said. "Well, the fact is in the State of Wisconsin, there is no rampant voter fraud."
Statistics from the Government Accountability Board show that over one million Wisconsin voters registered at the polls in the 2006, 2008, and 2010 general elections.
Governor Walker has said he believes the process puts too much stress on election workers, many of whom have said that's not the case.
