MADISON (WKOW) -- The nonprofit Clean Lakes Alliance (CLA) is offering winter-the med prizes donated by local businesses to the first eight persons who correctly guess the date Lake Mendota will freeze. The grand prize has a value of $327.

The CLA hopes the Mendota Freeze Contest encourages the community to think about local lakes year-round, not just during the summer months.

In a written statement, James Tye, Vice President of CLA, said, "The winter season brings with it many fun lake activities, like ice fishing, cross-country skiing, skating, and ice boating. In the winter, our lakes really are frozen assets for everybody to enjoy."
