MADISON (WKOW) -- Giving underprivileged kids, the joy that comes with the holiday season is the goal of the Toys for Tots campaign.

As of Tuesday, Staff Sgt. Edward J. Vinogroski says, they're about 20,000 toys behind.

A special toy drive was held on Tuesday at Fourier Fitness in Madison. 27 News' Elishah Oesch joined in the workout where several Marines helped people flex both their physical and emotional muscles.

Jumping jacks, pull ups, sit-ups, and toys! Fourier Fitness teamed up with local Golf Company 2/24 to help support the local Toys for Tots campaign.

"We wanted to do something over the holidays," Fourier Fitness owner Rachel Newcomb said. "The original idea was a sweat for a cause, and then we picked toys for tots cause it's timely."

For one day, anyone who donated a toy to Toys for Tots, worked out for free, with an added bonus: Training with nine local Marines.

It was an experience gym member, Nathan Plumb, will never forget.

"I'm honored to work out with these guys and the service they're doing for this country is amazing," Plumb said.

Plumb donated an educational toy to the cause, because he believes education, especially about physical health, is important for kids.

Staff Sgt. Megan Marshall agrees with him.

"As a Marine, physical fitness is paramount for us, and Toys for Tots is a great organization because it's bringing families in need together," Staff Sgt. Marshall said.

Staff Sgt. Marshall has been with the Marines for 13 years. She's supported the Toys for Tots program through it all.

"It's a great time to meet the community and get them involved in helping," Staff Sgt. Marshall said.

"It makes all the difference in the world," Newcomb said. "It's really what gets people excited."

The Marines hope that excitement translates to more toys and more donations of any kind.

"If you want to donate, donate what you can," Staff Sgt. Marshall said. "Some people might not have the monetary means, but time is the best thing you can give."
