MADISON (WKOW) -- Legendary Green Bay Packers quarterback Bart Starr collapsed after giving a speech Tuesday morning at Monona Terrace Convention Center, but Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Association officials tell 27 News he recovered within minutes.
Kevin Fisher, the public relations spokesman for WHEDA, says 78-year-old Starr gave a 45 minute motivational speech at the Governor's Conference on Economic Development, put on by WHEDA. Fisher says he also talked about his days with the Packers.
Fisher said that when Starr was towards the end of his speech, he stood quietly at the podium for about 15 to 20 seconds and then collapsed. Fisher said that within minutes Starr was sitting up and speaking. Fisher said a WHEDA employee, who is also a paramedic, rushed to his aid.
911 was called, but Starr would not go in an ambulance, according to Fisher. Starr's wife told Fisher that he was feeling and doing well. Starr took a private limo to the airport and is headed back to his home in Alabama.
According to Fisher, the conference continued after Starr left.
