Protestors storm Michigan Capitol

LANSING, MI (WKOW) -- There was plenty of uproar at the Capitol in Michigan Thursday.

It all surrounded controversial legislation involving unions.

The state's Senate and House approved right-to-work bills, which limit the right to strike and picket and prevent unions from collecting fees from non-union workers.

Supporters say the bills will make the state more competitive in attracting businesses.

Thousands of people protested against the legislation, so many that the capitol was closed for a time for safety reasons.

They say the legislation was rushed through and that right-to-work bills lead to lower pay and fewer benefits.
