SMELSER TOWNSHIP (WKOW) -- Emergency crews dealing with a machine shed fire are interrupted with a car crash nearby.
The fire broke out Thursday afternoon at 3657 Highway 80 in Smelser Township. Members of the Cuba City Fire Department were controlling traffic so emergency vehicles could access the scene.
Traffic was stopped on Highway 80 just south of the fire scene, when police say a car driven by Michael Connolly, 44, rear-ended a car driven by Nieley Daily, 26. Daily's 6-year-old daughter was also in the car. Officers say Connolly didn't realize Daily was stopped in front of him. Her car careened across the opposite lanes and into a ditch.
Connolly, Daily and her daughter were transported to Southwest Health Center in Platteville. The little girl was not hurt. Daily had minor injuries and Connolly had what police call "non-life threatening" injuries.
Connolly was given a ticket for inattentive driving.
