MADISON (WKOW) -- A Madison police officer called off a short pursuit early Sunday morning.
The officer had been trying to stop a pickup truck on State Street. Prior to losing site of the truck, the officer saw the driver turn onto W. Dayton Street and proceed through two intersections at speeds of about 40 mph.
A short time later, the officer heard UW-Madison police advice they were out with the truck near Dayton and Park Streets.
Witnesses say the driver jumped out while the truck was still in drive. It stopped after striking a tree.
UW police officers arrested the driver after he ran from the scene. According to witnesses, there were approximately 50 people in the area of the crash. No pedestrians were injured, but the driver was treated for a cut to the head.
Scott McLean, age 20 of Madison, was arrested for operating under the influence, 2nd degree recklessly endangering safety, eluding, failure to obey traffic sign - 2 counts, and underage person carrying identification that is not theirs or altered.
