NEWTOWN, Conn. (WKOW) -- Authorities in Newtown, Connecticut say they'll likely release the identities of the shooting victims on Saturday.

Connecticut State Police Lt. J. Paul Vance says investigators made preliminary identifications of the bodies, and they've notified the appropriate families. But investigators want to make final, positive identifications before making the names public.

Police say 27 people were killed when the gunman, 20-year-old Adam Lanza, opened fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School. 20 children and six adults were killed. Lanza was also found dead at the scene.

Officers say Lanza also killed his mother at their home before going to the school.

For a while Friday, investigators believed the shooter was Adam's brother, Ryan, because they say Adam Lanza was using his brother's I.D. It turns out Ryan Lanza was at work in New York City when the shooting began. Ryan Lanza was questioned by authorities but they say they now believe that he was not involved in the shooting.

On Friday night, a law enforcement official said investigators found more guns at the school than the initial two that had been reported. The weapons were being traced by state and federal authorities. Police say Lanza was carrying at least two handguns. Other officials say he apparently left a high-powered rifle in the back of the car he drove to the school.

Officials say some guns owned by Lanza's mother match the models of the guns used in the shooting, but they have not made a conclusive link. State police records show the woman legally purchased five guns and all were registered in Connecticut. Authorities are still trying to account for all the guns.

NEWTON, Conn. (WKOW) -- The Associated Press is correcting an earlier report that the Connecticut school shooter was Ryan Lanza. The news organization now cites a law enforcement official as saying the presumed shooter was 20-year-old Adam Lanza, Ryan's brother.

The AP reports a law enforcement official says Adam Lanza was the son of a teacher at the school, Sandy Hook elementary. A second law enforcement official says the boy's mother, Nancy Lanza, is presumed dead.

The first official says Adam Lanza's older brother, 24-year-old Ryan, of Hoboken, N.J., is being questioned by police. An earlier report from a law enforcement official mistakenly transposed the brothers' first names and identified Ryan as the shooter.

Police previously said 27 are dead: 20 children, six members of the school staff and the shooter.
