Players turn to Twitter to express thoughts after tragedy

MADISON (WKOW) -- On days like this, it's difficult to talk or even think about sports.

It's fair to say most of us often turn to sports as a diversion from life's issues, but on Friday most everyone -- athletes included -- was affected by the tragic shooting in Connecticut.

Many athletes turned to social media to express their thoughts.

Packers receiver Greg Jennings tweeted, "I can't put into words the feeling I have for the families in Connecticut today. Prayers going up for everyone involved."

Former Badger quarterback Russell Wilson tweeted, "My heart and soul aches for all the families, friends, students and worst of all, the kids in Connecticut. #We need peace in the world."

And this from former Badger football player JJ Watt: "Horrific. Simply horrific. Thoughts go out to all of the parents, teachers, family members, responders & saddest of all, the kids."

Packers offensive lineman TJ Lang tweeted, "Disgusted and saddened after hearing of this school shooting.. Absolute coward.. My heart is hurting for all the families involved."
