
MADISON (WKOW) -- Several cities have already declared snow emergencies ahead of the major winter storm forecasted for much of the Midwest. Here is a list of snow emergencies and the city's rules:
City of Madison
The City of Madison has declared a snow emergency. That means alternate side parking restrictions will be in effect throughout the entire City of Madison including the downtown/isthmus snow emergency zone.
Madison residents are asked to remove all vehicles from the street if possible. Residents who must park on the street this evening should park on the ODD house numbered side of the street. Vehicles parked on the street Friday evening December 21st should be parked on the EVEN house numbered side of the street. Violations of the alternate side parking rules are punishable by a fine of $60 throughout the entire City of Madison. Violators could also be towed.
The Snow Emergency will remain in effect until at least 7 a.m. on Saturday December 22nd.
Parking is available in the cashiered sections of city-owned ramps in the downtown area. During a declared Snow Emergency you can park for no charge at the City ramps from 9 p.m. until 7 a.m. If you enter before 9 p.m. or leave after 7 a.m. you are liable for any parking charges before 9 p.m. and from 7 a.m. until the time you leave.
Adams
The City of Adams has declared a SNOW EMERGENCY beginning Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 8PM through Friday, December 21, 2012, noon.
During this SNOW EMERGENCY there is no parking on ANY CITY streets until the end of the emergency. Your vehicle may be towed at your expense if it is on the street during this time.
Portage
The snow emergency for Portage begins at 2:00 a.m. Thursday and means parking is prohibited on all signed snow routes. Then starting at 4:00 a.m. Thursday, parking is prohibited on all over streets, except the Central Business District.
In the Central Business District, parking is prohibited from 10:00 p.m. on Thursday to 7:00 a.m. on Friday.
Vehicles not complying with these parking regulations are subject to a fine and your vehicle may be towed.
The City of Portage says the snow emergency will remain in effect for 48 hours or until it is canceled by the street superintendent. You can call this hotline for more information: (608) 742-2176 Ext. 335.
Fort Atkinson
The City of Fort Atkinson has declared a snow emergency that will take effect at 12:00 a.m. Thursday and remain in effect until 6:00 p.m. Friday.
Sun Prairie
The City of Sun Prairie is declaring a snow emergency beginning at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, December 20 and continuing until 7:00 a.m. Friday, December 21.
A snow emergency means there is no parking on any city street until the emergency has been lifted. Vehicles parked on the street in violation of this ordinance can be ticketed and may be towed.
Village of McFarland
The Village of McFarland has issued a snow emergency from Wednesday, December 19 at 11:00 p.m. to Friday, December 21 at 11:00 p.m.
Per Village ordinance, no vehicles are allowed to be parked on any village street during the declared snow emergency. Alternate parking is available in the Municipal Center parking lot, McFarland Public Library parking lot and the parking lot located at Exchange Street and Farwell Street.
Village of Oregon
The Village of Oregon is declaring a Snow Emergency beginning at 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19 and continuing until 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 22.
A Snow Emergency means that there is no parking on any Village street until the Snow Emergency has been canceled. Vehicles parked on the street in violation of this ordinance can be ticketed and may be towed.
Windsor
The Town of Windsor has declared a snow emergency. There is no parking on Windsor streets, from 12 p.m. on Thursday, December 20 until 5 p.m. on Friday, December 21. Violators may be ticketed and possibly towed.
Stoughton
When a snow emergency has been declared, no street parking is allowed during the 48 hour declaration or until it has been canceled.
During a snow emergency, parking on all village streets is prohibited. Vehicles parked on the street in violation of this ordinance can be ticketed with a $30 fine and may be towed.
Village of Shorewood Hills
The Village of Shorewood Hills has declared a snow emergency. No vehicles, trailers, etc. shall be parked on Village roadways from 10:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 19, 2012 until 11:59 P.M. on Friday, December 21, 2012. Any vehicle, trailer, etc. on the roadway between these hours is subject to citation and/or towing.
City of Elroy
The City of Elroy's Administrator, Mark Steward has officially declared a snow emergency for all city streets. The snow emergency will go into effect at 6:00 am Thursday, December 20 and last until noon Saturday, December 22. There will be no parking on any city streets, during this time, so crews can clear them. Violators are subject to a ticket and or towing of their vehicle. Public parking lots and downtown areas will be opened without restriction on their normal parking hours.
Village of Cottage Grove
