UPDATE: Wrong-way drunk driver on West Beltline causes crash

MADISON (WKOW) -- A head-on crash, on a snow covered and slippery West Beltline, sends three women to the hospital as a drunken driver smashes into their vehicle while operating in the wrong lanes of traffic.

The accident occurred in heavy snowfall shortly after 11:30 Wednesday night.  The suspect, Griffin L. Lowmaster, age 24, of Middleton was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes between Verona Road and Seminole Highway.

Following his arrest, Lowmaster told an officer, "I could have killed someone.  I don't know what I was thinking."

The three women, ages 21 & 22, all from Madison, were taken to a hospital with non life-threatening injuries.  One suffered a fractured breastbone.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Emergency crews have cleared part of the Beltline that closed because of an accident.

The westbound lanes from Seminole Highway to the Midvale exit are open again as of 1:15 a.m.

A two car accident closed part of the Beltline for about 2 hours.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Part of the Beltline is closed after a head-on collision.

According to Dane County Communications, the crash near Seminole Highway happened around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. Two cars were involved and three people had non-life threatening injuries.

The westbound Beltline is currently closed from Seminole to Midvale.
