JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- Wednesday night, a deputy from the Rock County Sheriff's Office was traveling east on State Highway 14 near Newville Road when he observed a car all over the road in front of him.
The deputy witnessed the vehicle strike the median, nearly colliding with another vehicle on the highway. He attempted to initiate a traffic stop near Kennedy Road and the vehicle eventually stopped in front of the Target store in the City of Janesville.
The driver, Cheryl L. Ackerman, age 40, of Stoughton, had an open can of Budweiser beer in the center console of the car and appeared to the under the influence of intoxicants.
Ackerman failed field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (5th Offense) and cited for open intoxicants in a motor vehicle and unsafe lane deviation.
She was transported to the Rock County Jail and is scheduled for an initial court appearance Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
