MADISON (WKOW) -- All the cancellations from Thursday's storm left a lot of people with a lot of free time. In the downtown area, people were able to find some fun.
With no school and no work, it was a day for play for some people on Capitol Square.
"We came to the Capitol [Thursday] and thought we'd have some fun," says Mark Howard, who brought his daughter to play in the snow on the Capitol lawn. "It's been actually fun, it's quite beautiful."
Others got a chance to get out for a walk, braving the heavy snow and blustery winds.
"It's not that bad if it were just snowing, but when it blows at you, you know that's the worst," says Sam Johnson, who's visiting his friend in Madison this weekend. "You've gotta have something to cover up then you'll be ok if you're dressed right."
But not everyone was able to stay outside. Inside the Capitol, it was much quieter than usual, but not empty. Many took shelter from the storm in the rotunda to keep warm and check out the holiday tree.
