MADISON (WKOW) -- The UW Athletic Department has named a new Badgers' head football coach.
Athletic director Barry Alvarez announced Thursday that Gary Andersen has been hired as UW's 29th head coach. He spent the past four seasons as head coach at Utah State.
Alvarez and Anderson will host a news conference on Friday at 10 a.m., followed by team practice in the afternoon.
The UW also released a video with Andersen's first public comments as the Badgers' head coach.
Andersen says he watched 12 games of Badger football last summer to prepare to play at Camp Randall Stadium in September, and he liked what he saw.
"They love the game of football and I really believe that you can see that on tape, the way the play together. It's just a special place," Andersen said. "It all came together. I was by no means sitting out there saying, 'I've got to have a job, I've got to have a job,' but as soon as this one popped open to me, this was a special, special place."
You can watch it on the UW's website.
