UPDATE: Wisconsin wolf hunt is over

MADISON (WKOW) -- Wisconsin's inaugural wolf season ended at 5:00 p.m. Sunday with the closing of Zone 3, the only wolf hunt zone that was still open.

Five of the state's six wolf-harvest zones have already been closed.

By Friday, the state Department of Natural Resources says hunters and trappers in Zone 3 were within one of the quota, which is 18 for that zone. The Department of Natural Resources will close the zone to avoid overharvest.

The statewide quota was 116 wolves during this year's hunt, which began October 15. It was set to close February 28 or whenever harvest goals were reached.
