BROOKLYN, Wisc. (WKOW)-- Longtime fire fighter and Brooklyn Fire Chief Phil Mortensen passed away Sunday afternoon after responding to an emergency call.
Mortensen was on the department for 42 years and spent 38 of those years as Fire Chief. He died after responding to an emergency call Saturday. The U.S Fire Administration is calling it a line-of-duty-death. No further details are being released at this time.
Mortensen was 67-years-old and was instrumental in establishing the Brooklyn EMS which provides emergency medical care to residents in the surrounding area.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
