MADISON (WKOW) -- The Red Cross collected 598 pints of blood at Monday's 27th Annual Madison Holiday Blood Drive, according to Communications Program Manager Bobbi Snethen.
She says about 170 volunteers and 75 Red Cross staff worked at the event. Since the event started in 1986, the Red Cross has collected 19,000 pints of blood. It can benefit patients at more than 40 hospital in Wisconsin, including University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics, St. Mary's and Meriter Hospital.
Last week, 24 blood drives were canceled in the region because of the snow storm. The Red Cross encourages donors to attend upcoming events listed below.

MADISON (WKOW) -- The American Red Cross hosts a holiday blood drive Christmas Eve.
The blood drive started at 7:00 a.m. and goes until 2:00 p.m. at the Exhibition Hall at the Alliant Energy Center. Donors have to be 17 years old or 16 with a parent's approval. The Red Cross is looking for all blood types.
