MADISON (WKOW) -- A man is arrested after a 12 hour long standoff at a Madison hotel.
Madison police responded to the Howard Johnson Motel on East Washington Avenue just before 1:00 p.m. Wednesday after learning that a man wanted on domestic related charges may be staying inside. One female came out of the room, but the suspect refused to comply.
"He was definitely thought to be armed and dangerous and looking at his violent past and looking at the fact that he was not complying with police when he was first confronted -- all led us to believe that this is an individual that needed to be taken into custody as soon as possible," Madison Police Spokesman Howard Payne said.
A perimeter was set up around the hotel and the SWAT team was called in. Madison police say a standoff lasted for hours. Payne says the subject was finally taken into custody just before midnight.
The man arrested is Alexsey Brik, 25. He was taken into custody on multiple domestic related charges and charges related to the standoff. Payne says he was also wanted on separate charges in South Dakota.
