MADISON (WKOW) -- Gas prices could be on the rise in our area.
Many gas stations saw almost a 14 cent spike in a gallon of regular gas. Some stations in Madison charge $3.15 for a gallon of regular gas, but others boosted their price to $3.29 per gallon.
According to Madison Gas Prices.com, stations in Stoughton, Mount Horeb, Monona, north Madison and Oregon sell gas at $3.29 a gallon. A Citgo station on the 2000 block of Fordem Avenue charges $3.39 a gallon.
These numbers are a significant difference from places like Middleton, De Forest, Cottage Grove and west Madison. Prices there are $3.14 or $3.15 a gallon.
According to the Wisconsin State Journal, there are many factors that contribute to the increase. Experts predict everything from concerns over the looming fiscal cliff to the decline in the value of the U.S. dollar.
The Wisconsin State Journal reports the average price for regular gas in Wisconsin was $3.22 on Thursday, an increase of two cents from Wednesday and four cents from a week ago.
That's slightly lower than the national average of $3.26 a gallon.
