MADISON (WKOW) -- Law enforcement agencies across the state will be cracking down on drunk drivers over the New Year's holiday.
The Dane County Sheriff's Department is asking everyone to make a resolution to improve their driving habits for 2013, which includes driving sober.
They want everybody to plan ahead for the holiday, "The cost of drunk driving is enormous. Even without being involved in a crash, the fine alone for first offense drunk driving exceeds $800. Then factor in the loss of your license, loss of your insurance or increase in premiums and the financial impact that such a mistake has on your family."
Mahoney says one option to get home is to use the Tavern League's safe-ride program. You can request a voucher for a free ride home from any participating bars or restaurants.
