MADISON (WKOW) -- Police search for a suspect after an overnight hit and run accident.

It happened at 600 University Avenue about 2:10 on Sunday morning. Dane County Communications says a car hit a person walking on the street.  Authorities said the victim and friends were crossing the street from north to south on University Avenue when the victim was hit by a car traveling southbound.

One person was injured in the accident and taken to a local hospital. Dane County Communications says the victim was not breathing right after the accident, but emergency responders were able to find a pulse on the victim.

Authorities said the 20-year-old victim has several significant injuries to his body and was transported to a local hospital.

Witnesses say the car was a beige or gold, four-door car. Witnesses describe the vehicle as something similar to a Civic.
