At least 5 NFL head coaches fired on 'Black Monday'

CHICAGO (WKOW) -- At least five NFL coaches have been fired Monday, including Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith.

Sources confirmed to ESPN the head coach of the Bears was let go Monday morning after nine seasons with the team. ESPN reports the Bears have already sent out letters asking various teams for permission to interview candidates to fill the job.

The Bears missed the playoffs Sunday for the fifth time in six seasons. They started the season 7-1. 

Also let go by their teams Monday morning were head coaches Andy Reid of the Philadelphia Eagles, Pat Shurmur of the Cleveland Browns, Romeo Crennel of the Kansas City Chiefs, and Chan Gailey of the Buffalo Bills.

The New York Jets decided to keep their coach, Rex Ryan, but fired general manager Mike Tannenbaum.

The Browns fired general manager Tom Heckert along with Coach Shurmur.

The Jacksonville Jaguars also fired general manager Gene Smith.
