MADISON (WKOW) -- 2013 is a new year, and some people are starting it off with a new addition to their family.
Jackson Edward Cannady was the first baby born in 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison on Tuesday at 3:40 a.m. His mom, Jennifer Cannady, says she was expecting Jackson to arrive a couple days earlier though.
"We were a little surprised, but by that time very tired, but we were excited," says Cannady. "Everyone was sorta pushing us more to say it would be cool to have the first New Year's baby of the Madison area. So, we got him."
At nine pounds and two ounces, Jackson is a healthy new baby. Jennifer says his big sister is excited to have a new baby brother.
Down the street at Meriter Hospital, officials say their first baby of the New Year was born at 4:22 a.m. Shreyash Joshi was born to proud parents Anchal Gusain and Dinesh Joshi.
He weighs 6 pounds, 7 ounces and is 20 inches long.
