MADISON (WKOW) -- Local kids took the opportunity to skate with a doctor Saturday at Vilas Park.
Dr. Patricia Kokotailo, a professor of pediatrics and Director of Adolescent Medicine at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine, skated with kids to spread the joys of outdoor exercise.
Dr. Kokotailo, a former figure skater, was promoting the importance of keeping children active, even during the colder winter months, with activities like ice skating and pond hockey.
"There's a lot of health benefits. It's a good cardiovascular exercise," Dr. Kokotailo said. "It's one where you can really help with your muscle strength and with your cardiovascular health in terms of raising your heart rate and being able to do more aerobic exercise."
Organizers believe the event creates a more relaxed atmosphere in which people can talk to doctors about any medical issues on their minds.
