UPDATE: Mother had been drinking prior to infant's death

MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- WISN News in Milwaukee reports new information in the death of a newborn has been released by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's office.

The death happened Monday morning in a home on 61st Street and Capitol Drive.

According to the medical examiner's report, the mother was drinking the night before and took a Percocet, which is a combination of Oxycodone and Acetaminophen.

The seven-day-old baby's father said he woke up to the infant fussing around 1:30 a.m. He gave the baby boy to the mother to be fed.

He said when he woke up at 4:00 a.m., the baby and mother were on the couch and the baby was not breathing.

The mother states she does not remember being given the baby overnight.

The infant's death is initially being ruled accidental, but the medical examiner says there will be further testing.

MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Milwaukee police are investigating the death of a newborn boy.

According to the Milwaukee County medical examiner's office, the 7-day-old child was pronounced dead at about 4:30 a.m. Monday. An autopsy is scheduled for later Monday or Tuesday.

The medical examiner's office says initial reports indicate the infant was sleeping with his mother on a couch.
