MADISON (WKOW) -- As investigators wait for toxicology results on the couple who died in a car fire in McFarland, the police chief says they might have been sleeping, or even unconscious, when the fire started.
The Wisconsin State Journal talked with McFarland Police Chief Craig Sherven, who says it doesn't appear the two victims, Brandon Slattery and Amy Damon, tried to exit the burning vehicle at all, indicating to him they may have been asleep or unconscious.
Police are also waiting for a report on the cause of the blaze from the State Fire Marshal, but say it looks like the fire began near the engine.
The Dane County Medical Examiner's office has ruled the deaths accidental.
