MADISON (WKOW) -- A heroin user goes through a withdrawal and attacks a police officer at a local hospital.
According to the Monona Police Department, 19-year-old Cody Wiser was located and arrested for several charges. Wiser was a heroin user and was going through withdrawals. He was taken to a local hospital for a medical clearance.
Police say inside one of the patient rooms in the Emergency Room, Wiser picked up and swung a large metal stool at a police officer's head. The officer deflected the stool and Wiser charged the officer.
The Monona Police Department says a one-on-one physical altercation ensued in the room while the door was closed. Wiser made three attempts to try to pull the officer's duty gun out of his holster.
After a 5-minute altercation, one of the ER staff heard a crash from the room and then heard the officer yell for help. It took about six ER staff members and the officer to finally bring Wiser to the ground and under control.
Wiser refused to comment when asked if he was trying to kill the officer.
Wiser was taken to the Dane County Jail and charged with burglary, forgery, attempting to disarm a peace officer and attempted battery to a peace officer.
The officer and Wiser did not need medical attention for any injuries during the altercation.
