VALDERS (WKOW)-- Johnson Hill Farms in Valders, Wisconsin recently finished first for the 2012 Show Your Pride national photo contest, sponsored in partnership with the National Football League and national and regional dairy councils.
As winners, they were awarded a visit from Green Bay Packers kicker Mason Crosby. While touring the facility, Crosby said, "So have these just been milked or are they waiting to go in?" Amy Johnson wasted no time giving Crosby a tour of their third generation dairy where they milk 480 cows.
Crosby said, "This is the first time I've come to a farm, and it's excellent. This is awesome. It was hard to tell who was more excited, the Johnson family or Mason Crosby. The family I got to meet and the people, and just kind of talking about good health and getting out and exercising and they're making sure they're getting out and getting that exercise and they seem to be passionate about that," said Crosby.
The Johnson's are definitely passionate about their cows, and they even taught Crosby a few maneuvers on their playing field. The Packers' kicker helped milk a few cows from the family's herd! And while Crosby's efforts may seem a novelty, the Johnson's see it as an opportunity to educate people about where their food comes from.
"We all hurry up and get the farm work done and we all sit down and watch a Packer game together and it's great!"says Johnson. And Crosby thinks it's great to get the message out about getting plenty of exercise and fueling up with a healthy diet!
"I start my day with actually fruit and a dairy smoothie in a sense. So I get whey protein, and then I put in some low-fat milk into a smoothie with fruits and vegetables," says Crosby.
