MADISON (WKOW) -- Long-time talk show host John "Sly" Sylvester will be back on the air on 93.7 WEKZ-FM.
On Monday, Sly announced he will be the afternoon drive time host of a talk show on WEKZ, which has studios in Monroe and Freeport, Illinois.
"I am very pleased that a professional of the caliber of Sly has joined the family of Big Radio," Big Radio owner Scott Thompson said.
Sly has been out of work since Madison news talk station WTDY switched formats in November. Mid-West Family Broadcasting changed the format of the old news talk station WTDY to sports talk with the call letters WOZN, 1670 AM and 106.7 FM.
Sly was on WTDY since 1997 and had been in Madison radio for almost 33 years.
Often bombastically, Sly challenged public officials and others during his progressive and libertarian-leaning morning talk program. Sylvester also took on a lead role in opposing Governor Scott Walker's limits to public employee collective bargaining.
"Radio is theatre of the mind," Thompson said. "Sly is radio's equivalent to a Broadway Actor. When tuned in, listeners have a front row seat."
Sly will officially be back on the air on February 4 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at 93.7 on the FM radio dial. His show will also be streamed live on the Internet and on a smartphone app.
The station's listening area includes Monroe, Beloit, Freeport, Rockford, Platteville, Janesville, Dubuque, and Madison.
Thompson said Big Radio has five radio stations, with WEKZ-FM as their flagship station.
