MADISON (WKOW) -- A 20-year-old man is facing battery charges after police say he pushed two people down a set of deck stairs at a Williamson Street dance club early Saturday morning.
Madison Police say a 29-year-old Portage man was knocked unconscious after being thrown from the back deck of Plan B around 1:23 a.m. Saturday.
Witnesses told police another man, Jeremias Robertson, became angry with the victim after the victim said he would not give Robertson a cigarette.
Surveillance video shows Robertson grabbing the victim by the neck and hurling him down a set of deck stairs. Police say the victim's head hit a railing, knocking him out.
Police say a 21-year-old woman, who had been socializing with the victim, tried to intervene, and was also pushed down the stairs by the suspect.
Officials say Robertson fled, but witnesses provided officers with solid clues that led to a West Beltline traffic stop and an arrest.
Police say Robertson initially denied being downtown, but after he learned of the surveillance video he changed his story, and admitted to grabbing the male victim.
The male victim was treated for a head injury at a hospital.
Robertson was arrested for Substantial Battery, Simple Battery and two counts of Disorderly Conduct.
