Janesville woman's inspirational story gains national attention

JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- Aimee Smith says she just wanted to inspire someone else like her when she told 27 News her story this week. Now, she's reached thousands of people.

Aimee used to weigh 427 pounds. But after having gastric bypass surgery, learning how to eat healthy and putting in countless hours in the gym, she's a triathlete. She did it in a little more than two years.

27 News brought you Aimee's story exclusively Monday and since then, her story has been retold by ABC News, CNN, Huffington Post and others. Aimee told 27 News' Dani Maxwell after her story first aired, "My intention was really to motivate a former me into knowing they can achieve their goals." Now, she may inspire many others, all over the country, not just in the Madison area.
