ROCK TOWNSHIP (WKOW) -- A Milwaukee man remains in custody at the Rock County Jail after a pursuit and crash in Rock Township.
It happened about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday on south CTH D near West Bass Creek Road. According to the Rock County Sheriff's Office, deputies observed a 1992 Chevy Caprice heading northbound with license plates that did not belong to the vehicle.
The deputy initiated a traffic stop and the vehicle turned onto West Bass Creek Road and came to a stop.
A few seconds later, the driver accelerated reaching speeds up to 70 miles-per-hour with the deputy in pursuit. The car hit a tree, spun around and came to rest facing the opposite direction. The male driver was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and then ran away.
Several deputies and officers from the City and Town of Beloit responded to the area to search for the suspect. A K-9 from the City of Beloit tracked the suspect to a residential area. During the search, a cell phone was found wedged in the dashboard.
The cell phone was linked to a woman on the 2900 block of West Bass Creek Road. The home had been vacant since December. Police looked around the home and found a door wide open. Deputies entered the home and found the suspect hiding in the bathroom with a space heater running.
Police took 36-year-old Rodney Moore from Milwaukee into custody. He will have an initial court appearance on Monday.
