TOWN OF YORK (WKOW) -- Authorities have identified the man who died Monday morning in a rollover crash.
The Dane County Sheriff's Department says the deceased is Frederick Smith, 53, of Madison. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials say the passenger in the vehicle is Dandre Barber, 28, of Juneau. He was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities say their preliminary investigation shows speed and alcohol were both contributing factors in the crash. The crash is still under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff's Department.
TOWN OF YORK (WKOW) -- Authorities responded to a one vehicle rollover crash in the Town of York early Monday Morning.
Officials were dispatched to US Highway 151 and the off ramp at County Highway V for the crash. A 1994 Buick Regal was traveling north on 151, when it exited at the off ramp at CTH V, went off the shoulder, down an embankment, and rolled several times.
The male driver of the vehicle, a 53-year-old male of Madison, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Dane County Medical Examiner. The other occupant of the vehicle, a 28-year-old male, also of Madison, was taken to UW Hospital with minor injuries.
Both occupants were wearing seatbelts. The airbags did not go off. Alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
The crash is under investigation by the Dane County Sheriff's Office. The names have not yet been released, pending notification of the families.
