MADISON (WKOW) -- Police say six people were hurt during a patient's outburst in the hospital.
Madison police say Jason Bender, 33, was arrested for battery to a police officer, multiple counts of battery and multiple counts of disorderly conduct.
Bender was admitted to Meriter Hospital recently and then left against medical advice. Police say he went to his car and drank alcohol. Bender then came back to the hospital with a 3' long heavy metal pole.
That's when police say he began hitting counters with the pole. Meriter security officers responded and Bender hit two of them with the pole. Police say Bender also bit one of the officers in the head, which broke the skin.
Several other hospital staff members responded and eventually they got Bender under control and into handcuffs.
After he was let up, police say Bender began to struggle and kicked a nurse in the stomach. By this time Madison police officers had arrived. During the struggle, officers say Bender bit one of the officers in the hand, but it did not break the skin. Eventually Bender was taken to the Dane County Jail.
In all, two Meriter security guards, two Meriter nurses, one social worker and one police officer all received minor injuries.
