Overview: WKOW is proud to partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters on a brand new initiative called "27 Kids Who Matter." This partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County (BBBS) and WKOW aims to help raise awareness and funds for BBBS. Every other week 27 News will feature 27 Bigs and Littles Thursdays 27 News at 10pm, and interview them live the following morning on 27 News Wake Up Wisconsin. "27 Kids Who Matter" will highlight, and their collective experiences as a means to increase the awareness and excitement surrounding mentoring in Madison.
Why "27 Kids Who Matter" now? Currently in Dane County there are 700 children on the Big Brothers Big Sisters waiting list. The vast majority of these children live in single-parent and low-income families or households where a parent is incarcerated. And, with poverty levels continuing to rise for students in the Madison Metropolitan School District, there has never been a greater need.
