MADISON (WKOW) -- The UW women's hockey team hosts No. 1, undefeated Minnesota Friday and Sunday at LaBahn Arena, and there's more than just a rivalry win on the line.
The Gophers have now won 32 straight games dating back to the 2011-12 season when they won it all.
That ties the record set by Wisconsin in 2007 and again in 2011, and now the Badgers have a chance to end the streak with a win on Friday.
UW head coach Mark Johnson did not realize the mark until it was brought up at a weekly press conference.
"You know, as we've found in the past, when you're No. 1, when you're undefeated, when you're defending national championships, usually the other team will give you their best shot. If not on both nights, certainly one of the nights. That's a task they have to deal with. We're not interested in that; we're interested in trying to figure out how to beat them on Friday afternoon," Johnson said.
The puck drops at 2 p.m. both Friday and Sunday.
