JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- Janesville Police executed three search warrants and arrested multiple people in connection to an ongoing heroin investigation Friday morning.
Sgt. Jim Holford says the police department seized two vehicles, 10 long guns, one pistol and a quantity of illegal drugs. They searched residences on Tyler Street, Kellogg Avenue and Spruce Street.
Holford says they were looking to make contact with 15 people. Janesville police say eight people were arrested. "This is unusual for our community -- it's a fairly significant investigation" he says.
At least nine children were referred to child protective services as a result of the searches.
Holford says they've been investigating some of the individuals for several months. "Those investigations, although parallel, came together about a week ago that allowed for this operation," Holford says.
Police believe some of the people taken into custody transport heroin into Janesville from the Chicago area. They then manage the drug distribution. "We're trying to illustrate that we're proactive and that we go to all of our neighborhoods investigating illegal drug activity," Holford says.
Police have not released the names of those arrested because they may have information that could lead to additional arrests.
