WI protester fined for spitting at Romney event

GRAND CHUTE (WKOW) – A Wisconsin protester who spit on a Mitt Romney supporter last year will be fined but not criminally charged.

The August event in Grand Chute was on behalf of the Republican presidential candidate, who was not in attendance.  The event was part of a statewide "Wisconsin Women for Mitt" tour.

Video from the event shows the 83-year-old protester interrupting Republican state Sen. Alberta Darling to ask about GOP opposition to Planned Parenthood.

A woman standing next to the protester tells the 83-year-old in a loud voice to "wait until she's done. Zip it. Zip it."  The protester tells the woman to get out of her face and then spits on her.

According to WLUK-TV, a Green Lake County prosecutor recommended a $277 fine but no charges.
