Mix of rain, snow, sleet expected for Sunday

MADISON (WKOW) -- Sunday could be a messy one on the roads.

As of 5 p.m. Saturday, 5 counties are already under a Winter Storm Warning beginning at 9 a.m. Sunday: Adams, Crawford, Grant, Juneau and Richland counties.

Many other counties are under Winter Weather advisories.

Here's the forecast from 27 Storm Track Meteorologist Ben Burkel:

A warm front moving through the area on Sunday afternoon and evening will be the culprit of a wintry mix of precipitation including snow, sleet, and freezing rain. The leading edge of the wintry mix should arrive late Sunday morning with the heaviest precipitation during the afternoon and evening hours. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued from noon Sunday until midnight Sunday with treacherous driving conditions expected. During this period, about a half to two inches of snow in addition to a tenth to two tenths of an inch of ice can be anticipated. Expect the higher snow accumulations north of Madison and the higher ice accumulations closer to the Illinois border.
