Madison declares snow emergency

MADISON (WKOW) -- The city of Madison has declared a snow emergency, meaning alternate side parking restrictions will be in effect throughout the entire city including the downtown/isthmus snow emergency zone.

Also, because the snow comes during two consecutive odd dates, residents who park on the street should park on the odd house numbered side of the street both overnight Wednesday and overnight Thursday. Alternate side parking rule violations come with a $60 fine.

The snow emergency is in effect until at least 7 a.m. on Friday, February 1st.

City officials ask residents to not park on the street if possible. Free parking will be available at city ramps downtown between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. Cars parked in the ramp before 9 or after 7 will be charged for that time. Cars should not be parked on the top level so the area can be plowed.

Free parking is also available at the Brittingham Park Shelter lot on West Washington Avenue.
