EDGERTON (WKOW) -- Fire departments from across the area were called out early Friday morning for a structure fire in Edgerton.
Firefighters from 20 departments responded around 2:30 a.m. to the 200 block of Albion Street.
The cold weather made it challenging to fully extinguish the flames. Crews rotated throughout the night and the fire contained by 6 a.m.
Even dealing the with extreme heat of fire, they still have to worry about exposure to sub-zero temperatures.
"The turnout gear, even in this cold weather, will hold in a lot of heat and you still will sweat quite a bit. Then if you are exposed to the cold afterward, there's always a risk of hypothermia," said Edgerton Fire Dept. Lt. Brennon Ruosch.
Nobody from either the family or crews were injured.
An initial investigation suggests the cause of the fire was a faulty furnace.
