Public Health Dept. seeking dog that bit child in Madison

MADISON (WKOW) -- The Department of Public health is searching for a dog that bit a child on Friday on the east side of Madison.

DPH says the child was waiting for the school bus on the 900 block of Rockefeller Lane around 6:40 a.m. when a smaller dog bit the child.

The dog is described a short coat, possibly brown or black in color. The child was unsure if the dog owner was a man or woman, but said the owner was wearing a black, gray and red jacket.

Officials ask anyone with information regarding the incident to call the Madison Police and Fire dispatcher at 608-255-2345. They say to ask for the animal services officer.

DPH says if the animal is not located, the child will have to complete a series of painful and costly injection to prevent rabies.
