MADISON (WKOW)-- Every year millions of people tune in to watch the Super Bowl. Many aren't even fans of football, but watch the game for some of the year's best commercials.
This year one will feature a man that lives right here in Madison.
Ryan Koch is no professional actor, famous athlete or celebrity, but on Super Bowl Sunday his face will be seen by millions.
"I never thought in my wildest dreams that I'd have my photo out there to be seen by millions of people," Koch says.
Koch is real estate agent at Keller Williams in Madison. He's what you'd call a hobby photographer, shooting pictures in his free time.
"I picked a camera up and I kind of was shooting homes for marketing purposes and then a year ago I went to Haiti for a mission trip and I came back with some powerful images and got good response from friends and family," Koch explains.
After that he developed a deep passion for photography. You can see it in some of his most detailed photographs, but he never imagined that a picture of him jumping off a rock in Maine would soon been seen across the world.
"I didn't think I would win. I didn't think I'd get in a Super Bowl commercial let alone any commercial."
The commercial is a one-minute spot for car maker Toyota. Using Twitter the company asked the public to submit photos for their upcoming Super Bowl ad. Out of thousands of pictures they chose Koch's.
"It's only for a split second so if you blink you'll most definitely miss me," Koch chuckles.
His picture only appears for 38 frames of video, just over a second of TV time. It's shown on a small cell phone in the corner.
Most people will probably miss it, but for Koch and his many friends and family members it's the thrill of a lifetime.
"Most people get 15 minutes of fame. I'm happy with my one second, so I'll take it," Koch says with a smile on his face.
Koch was paid $600 for his photo. It's the first time a picture of his has been published. He says he won't let the exposure go to his head. He won't be quitting his day job any time soon.
(MADISON) WKOW-- No matter which teams are playing, the Super Bowl draws millions of viewers to catch the action. The event is often referred to as the biggest advertising opportunity of the year with companies spending millions of dollars for each 30-second spot.
On Sunday night one of those ads will feature a photograph from local hobby photographer Ryan Koch. The picture, shown above, was taken by Koch earlier this year. It will make it's worldwide debut during a one minute spot for Toyota. Out of thousands of photos submitted on Twitter, Koch's picture was chosen as the sole winner for this year's ad.
