MADISON (WKOW) – The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction is seeking sponsors to feed low-income children this summer.
In 2012, the 177 sponsors in the food service program who contracted with the DPI provided 2.4 million free meals to children during the summer months. The sponsors operated 728 sites statewide last year.
Sponsors of the program include public and private nonprofit schools, camps, libraries and local governments.
The DPI says those interested in sponsoring the program will find more information and an online application on its website, http://fns.dpi.wi.gov. New sponsors are required to attend a training session in Madison on April 3.
The DPI has administered the federal program since it began in 1975.
