JANESVILLE (WKOW)-- A Janesville man is in Rock County jail after crashing a stolen vehicle while he was intoxicated.
Rock County deputies were dispatched to 3145 W. Rockport Road for an auto theft at 12:33 am Sunday. Dispatch called deputies a few minutes later and warned them that 49-year-old Richard Fox was seen with the stolen vehicle headed eastbound towards Janesville.
The car was found in a ditch near West STH 11. Officials say the car hit the guardrail and then went across the road and into a ditch on the other side. Fox was found minutes later walking away from the scene. He admitted that he took and drove the vehicle involved in the accident. At that moment deputies noticed a strong odor of intoxicants.
Janesville EMS transported Fox to Mercy Hospital Emergency Room where he was treated and released. He is now in custody at Rock County Jail awaiting charges for Operating Motor Vehicle without the Owners Consent and Offense Felony OWI. Fox has seven prior OWI's on his record.
Fox was also issued citations for Operating After Revocation, Failure to Report an Accident, Hit and Run Property on or Adjacent to a Highway, Too Fast For Conditions and Seatbelt Violation.
