Donald Driver's farewell to fans

GREEN BAY (WKOW) -- One of the most beloved members of the Green Bay Packers said farewell to his fans. Donald Driver made his retirement official Wednesday with a ceremony at Lambeau Field.

Driver announced his retirement in front of 1,000 fans who waited in sub-zero temperatures to snatch up tickets to Wednesday's event.

Packers President and CEO Mark Murphy said he's never seen a player have such a special connection with the fans. That connection was clear during the ceremony, with hardly a dry eye in the crowd as fans heard number 80 explain his decision to hang up the cleats.

"This day is not just for me. It's for you. 12 years ago, I signed my first big contract with the Green Bay Packers. And I promised you all that I would never wear another uniform. So today we make that official," Driver said.

Driver has given so much to his community and Green Bay is giving back to him. Mayor Jim Schmitt gave Driver a key to the city and announced the city is going to name a street Donald Driver Way. The street is the one just outside Titletown Brewery. Outside of the brewery there is a statue of a receiver on which they're going to put number 80.

In recognition of Driver's achievements, Governor Scott Walker also declared Wednesday "Donald Driver Day."
