Businesses happy with Saturday's mild weather

MADISON (WKOW)-- It's been a good, but hectic month for auto repair shops and tow companies. Many have been working nonstop during these recent snowfalls.

At Moore's Towing in Madison, workers are breathing a big sigh of relief.

"Haven't done any lock outs today so it's been a good day," says tow truck driver Skyler Skalitzky.

It's a good day to sit back and recover. Over the past two weeks drivers have been working 12 hour days. The shop was averaging 70 to 90 calls a day with only three drivers on the road.

"We've been having a lot of batteries go dead, a lot of doors freezing, a lot of slide outs, stuff like that," Skalitzky says.

Over at Applegate Auto, workers are also happy to see a slow weekend.

"We've been going probably from 6am in the morning until about 11:00 at night nonstop," says owner Sven Kroner.

The workers will spend the next few days catching up. With extreme cold and slick road conditions they've seen it all.

"Pretty much a combination of everything. A combination of cold, no starts, a lot of alternators, a lot of starters," Kroner explains. "People running into curbs with their cars."

With the number of calls twice as a high as they normally are, a slow weekend couldn't have come at a better time. It's giving them a chance to regroup, order some much needed parts and slowly work through the back log of damaged cars.

"You almost have to have that otherwise you can't keep up at all," Kroner chuckles.

Even though the past few weeks have been tough, both companies are happy to see the extra business. It makes up for the slow months over the Summer.
