Hazardous waste from solar panel companies

MADISON (WKOW) -- Homeowners looking to solar panels as a cleaner energy source may be upset to learn that technology is not as clean as they hoped.

An Associated Press investigation uncovered California state records showing 17 companies, with 44 California facilities, produced nearly 47 million pounds of hazardous waste over a span of four years.

Ninety-seven percent went to California waste facilities, but 1.4 million pounds of the waste was taken as far away as Rhode Island.
